![]() Jerry Bruckheimer has always been excellent for having phenomenal music in his films to enhance the film, and just like Flashdance, American Gigolo, Beverly Hills Cop 1&2, and Top Gun, Thief of Hearts continues in that same mannor. ![]() In other words, one could not walk out of the theater and if approached with the question, "Do you think the movie had a soundtrack", answer negatively or even wonder. Unlike a lot of modern day films, but relatively common in the 80's, the songs of the soundtrack are not all just in the background, but rather play a major part in the mood and atmosphere of the film. Honestly, the only way you would even find that this movie exists is if you were looking for other movies made by the producers, director, actors or composer, etc.Īnd it is a shame because this film stands out as one of the best movies from producer Bruckheimer and composer Faltermeyer. (Melissa Manchester's title song only reached #86 on the Billboard Hot 100 and all other songs failed to chart if even released at all.) The movie was such a failure that it has become largely ignored by many of the film makers involved, including Jerry Bruckheimer in all of his interviews of his hit movies, and most of the public as a whole. (He wouldn't until Top Gun) The movie failed to raise hardly any numbers at the box office, and the soundtrack bombed even worse. In addition, composer Harold Faltermeyer, being known possibly only for his hit song from Beverly Hills cop unfortunately did not continue to make a name for himself with this film. Barbara Williams was relatively unknown at the time, and this was the first film by director Douglas Day Stewart. Steven Bauer was known only from Scarface at the time and people were not quite as concerned with the talent of "supporting actors" in the 80's like they are today. Released in the middle of the madness of Footloose and Simpson/Bruckheimer's own Beverly Hills Cop, it's not surprising that Thief of Hearts was largely ignored. Other than that, it is the next movie Don Simpson & Jerry Bruckheimer produced one year after Flashdance and shortly after Beverly Hills Cop. Before I go any further, that may have a huge impact on some seekers of the movie. ![]() ![]() The music and all other relevant scenes are still there. This movie review is in relation to the DVD version, which as one viewer remarked,is NOT the same version as the VHS edition which shows more in the love scenes, which is fine by me. ![]()
