![]() ![]() Starting from as low as AU$1,349 (and with regular discounts seeing them cost even less), the TCL C835's surprising performance at its price is nowhere better represented than its use of Mini-LED backlighting, which offers brightness to 1,500 nits that beats out even OLED capabilities. TCL has stumbled upon a winner with its Mini-LED TV offerings, with this TCL C835 leading the charge to demonstrate unrivalled performance at the kind of cost that getting your hands on one will demand ( at least until TCL's new line of TVs see their official launch). Less overall power than top of the line models Read the full LG C3 OLED review The best budget TV Still, the LG C3 is still a great TV with plenty to offer those who are looking for a quality OLED TV. Given cheaper models such as the TCL C835 above will offer HDR10+, it's disappointing that the C3 doesn't include it here. Brightness isn't quite on the same level as the new QD-OLED models and LG doesn't support either the IMAX Enhanced or HDR10+ format. It's not a perfect score for the LG C3 however. Altogether this makes it a great companion for the PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. In addition to those improvements, the C3 OLED maintains the four HDMI 2.1 ports that it inherited from the C2 (and the C1 before it), while also offering out-of-the-box FreeSync Premium Pro, G-Sync, ALLM and standard VRR with a generous native refresh rate of 120Hz. This sees the TV speakers continuing to kick out sound, providing backup for the soundbar. LG would love for you to add one of its latest Dolby Atmos 'bars, which can pair with the TV via the company's new Wow Orchestra feature. But if you're a bit of a bass aficionado, you'll definitely want to add a soundbar. Audio performance, once again, isn't much to write home about, although it would be fair to say it can go loud and voices are clear. Brightness hasn't seen much of an upgrade over the C2, but overall definition has certainly been turned up a notch. Improvements for the C3 over its predecessor, the LG C2 OLED, include the inclusion of the Alpha a9 Gen 6 processor – the latest version from LG – which further improves HDR performance and dynamic tone mapping. This is still an exceptionally powerful TV which offers an impressive array of premium features that will suit almost every need imaginable, particularly those with darker rooms who want the ultimate home-viewing experience. Succeeding the excellent LG C2 OLED was never going to be easy, but LG has pulled it out of the bag with the launch of the C3. Read our full Samsung S95C QD-OLED review The best OLED TV But there are more than enough reasons to suggest that the S95C is the TV to beat in 2023 (so far). Naturally, the Samsung S95C QD-OLED doesn’t come cheap, and its lack of Dolby Vision support is a slight disappointment. There is also plenty for gamers to like, such as refresh rate support up to 144Hz, four HDMI 2.1 ports and more – comfortably putting it in the conversation as the best gaming TV as well. Bass is deep and rich, and its soundstage is consistent without experiencing any obvious hiccups – making pairing the S95C with one of the best soundbars feel much more optional. With Samsung’s Object Tracking Sound system in the mix, audio for the S95C extends beyond the confines of its frame. Sound quality for the S95C is also a notable improvement on the S95B. The end result, as we summarised in our review, is the kind of balanced, dynamic picture performance “we’ve never seen before on an OLED TV”. This means that the S95C is a more suitable TV for bright rooms, and it manages to achieve this while still offering the dynamic, rich picture quality typical of OLED panels. In our review, we measured the S95C’s peak brightness as high as almost 1,400 nits, which for comparison is much greater than the LG C2’s peak of around 850 nits. Samsung improves on its attempts to marry the strengths of OLED and QLED panel technologies (which it calls QD-OLED) with the S95C, which offers a panel that is almost 40% brighter than the 2022 model without any sacrifices to picture quality. While its predecessor (the S95B) was powerful in its own right, this year’s update feels like a true step above. Competition will be fierce as we get a look at more of 2023’s TV releases, but right now the exceptional Samsung S95C OLED holds bragging rights as the most impressive TV on the market. ![]()
